The Hit List : My Favourite Foundations

I have decided to do a series of blogs called 'The Hit list' where I will choose a product type ie; foundations and share the 5 that have been hits for me.

Coming from the perspective of a make up artist this will hopefully give you all a good insight on foundations that will suit different skin types and not just my own ( which is normal/oily). Working as  a make up artist I have to have a selection of different foundations in my kit, I have tried so many different brands over the years and of course have a few favourites.

  1. YSL Le Teint Touche Eclat

Coverage : Buildable, you can definitely build it up to a medium coverage. It will definitely tone down redness and conceal blemishes.

Finish : Luminous, anyone following me will know I love a dewy glow to the skin and this definitely will give you that.

Skin Type : As I said, I have oily skin and this last well on my skin, that said I would only every wear it over a good primer and set it with a translucent powder. This is a foundation that I find myself using on most skin types, it will work well on dry and mature skin types as it will leave them looking luminous and feels weightless on the skin.

Price : €42

Why I love it? : I love my skin to look like skin but obviously still need coverage in some areas, this foundation will give you the coverage you want without looking heavy.

2. Bare Minerals Original Foundation

Coverage : Buildable from a completely sheer finish up to maximum coverage.

Finish : Radiant and healthy glow.

Skin Type : Although it is a non drying formula I do find this works best on normal or oily skin. One thing I will point out is that if like me you have open pores on your t-zone you will need to use a good primer underneath this ( I use Benefit Porefessional) as without a primer it makes my pores look  bigger. It would be my first choice of foundation for people with acne prone or problem skin as it gives excellent coverage and won't aggravate the skin.

Price : €29.50

Why I love it? : I have been using this foundation for at least 7 years now and still love it. When I started using it I had problem skin that broke out when I used other foundations. It takes a while to get used to the mineral formula if you are used to using a liquid foundation but it is worth giving it a go.

3. Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation

Coverage : Medium

Finish : I would describe it as a natural satin finish that definitely blurs the appearance of pores.

Skin Type : Again I find it works well on my skin and has good lasting power especially if your skin is on the oilier side but that said I would recommend a primer underneath and a setting powder on top. It is a great one for dry skin types as it is hydrating and doesn't feel tight on the skin.

Price : €10.49

Why I Love it? : I am a fan of Rimmel foundations in general and also like the Wake Me Up foundation for more of a dewy finish but this one is my favourite. It is so affordable but also excellent quality so I alway recommend this one as your 'weekday' foundation and save your pricier one for weekends and special occasions.

4. Urban Decay All Nighter Foundation

Coverage : Full Coverage

Finish : Matte , I personally don't like a matte finish so I always mix a bit of liquid illuminator with this.

Skin Type : This is a an oil-free foundation so is particularly good for those of you with oily skin it will mattify the skin an also absorbs oil so will prevent shine too. This is one of the most pigmented foundations that I have used so if you have acne or anything that needs to be concealed this is a good option for you. I wouldn't use this on someone with dry skin but it is a great one to go for if your skin is oily.

Price : €34

Why I Love it ? : It has great last power and as someone with oily skin that is important. I love using this on someone that has oily and acne prone skin as the coverage is amazing and leaves the skin looking flawless.

5. Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation

Coverage : light to medium

Finish : Radiant finish leaving skin looking fresh and natural

Skin Type : This a great one for those of you that like  a natural looking base or normally go for a tinted moisturiser or BB cream. It would be best suited to those of you with normal to dry skin as it will give the skin a boost of radiance and is enriched with vitamins that will refresh dull skin. Its also a good one for older ladies with more mature skin.

Price : € 14.95

Why I love it? : Sometimes less is more and it is nice to use something that will even out the skin and just go in with extra coverage where ever necessary. When my skin isn't looking too healthy or feeling dehydrated this is the one I go for.

I could have listed another 5 foundations that I love as there are lots of great foundations out there but it is just a matter of finding the right one for you and your skin type. We also all have difference preferences when it comes to coverage or foundation finishes so I hope I have covered one that will be right for you.

I do recommend when going for a more expensive foundation that you maybe try a sample first and make sure  that you love it before you part with your money.

I hope that was useful and as I said I will be doing more of this type of blog so stay tuned!

These are foundations that I always re-buy for my kit and for personal use. This post has not been sponsored and as always all opinions are my own.
