The Hit List : My Favourite Foundations

I have decided to do a series of blogs called 'The Hit list' where I will choose a product type ie; foundations and share the 5 that have been hits for me.

Coming from the perspective of a make up artist this will hopefully give you all a good insight on foundations that will suit different skin types and not just my own ( which is normal/oily). Working as  a make up artist I have to have a selection of different foundations in my kit, I have tried so many different brands over the years and of course have a few favourites.

  1. YSL Le Teint Touche Eclat

Coverage : Buildable, you can definitely build it up to a medium coverage. It will definitely tone down redness and conceal blemishes.

Finish : Luminous, anyone following me will know I love a dewy glow to the skin and this definitely will give you that.

Skin Type : As I said, I have oily skin and this last well on my skin, that said I would only every wear it over a good primer and set it with a translucent powder. This is a foundation that I find myself using on most skin types, it will work well on dry and mature skin types as it will leave them looking luminous and feels weightless on the skin.

Price : €42

Why I love it? : I love my skin to look like skin but obviously still need coverage in some areas, this foundation will give you the coverage you want without looking heavy.

2. Bare Minerals Original Foundation

Coverage : Buildable from a completely sheer finish up to maximum coverage.

Finish : Radiant and healthy glow.

Skin Type : Although it is a non drying formula I do find this works best on normal or oily skin. One thing I will point out is that if like me you have open pores on your t-zone you will need to use a good primer underneath this ( I use Benefit Porefessional) as without a primer it makes my pores look  bigger. It would be my first choice of foundation for people with acne prone or problem skin as it gives excellent coverage and won't aggravate the skin.

Price : €29.50

Why I love it? : I have been using this foundation for at least 7 years now and still love it. When I started using it I had problem skin that broke out when I used other foundations. It takes a while to get used to the mineral formula if you are used to using a liquid foundation but it is worth giving it a go.

3. Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation

Coverage : Medium

Finish : I would describe it as a natural satin finish that definitely blurs the appearance of pores.

Skin Type : Again I find it works well on my skin and has good lasting power especially if your skin is on the oilier side but that said I would recommend a primer underneath and a setting powder on top. It is a great one for dry skin types as it is hydrating and doesn't feel tight on the skin.

Price : €10.49

Why I Love it? : I am a fan of Rimmel foundations in general and also like the Wake Me Up foundation for more of a dewy finish but this one is my favourite. It is so affordable but also excellent quality so I alway recommend this one as your 'weekday' foundation and save your pricier one for weekends and special occasions.

4. Urban Decay All Nighter Foundation

Coverage : Full Coverage

Finish : Matte , I personally don't like a matte finish so I always mix a bit of liquid illuminator with this.

Skin Type : This is a an oil-free foundation so is particularly good for those of you with oily skin it will mattify the skin an also absorbs oil so will prevent shine too. This is one of the most pigmented foundations that I have used so if you have acne or anything that needs to be concealed this is a good option for you. I wouldn't use this on someone with dry skin but it is a great one to go for if your skin is oily.

Price : €34

Why I Love it ? : It has great last power and as someone with oily skin that is important. I love using this on someone that has oily and acne prone skin as the coverage is amazing and leaves the skin looking flawless.

5. Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation

Coverage : light to medium

Finish : Radiant finish leaving skin looking fresh and natural

Skin Type : This a great one for those of you that like  a natural looking base or normally go for a tinted moisturiser or BB cream. It would be best suited to those of you with normal to dry skin as it will give the skin a boost of radiance and is enriched with vitamins that will refresh dull skin. Its also a good one for older ladies with more mature skin.

Price : € 14.95

Why I love it? : Sometimes less is more and it is nice to use something that will even out the skin and just go in with extra coverage where ever necessary. When my skin isn't looking too healthy or feeling dehydrated this is the one I go for.

I could have listed another 5 foundations that I love as there are lots of great foundations out there but it is just a matter of finding the right one for you and your skin type. We also all have difference preferences when it comes to coverage or foundation finishes so I hope I have covered one that will be right for you.

I do recommend when going for a more expensive foundation that you maybe try a sample first and make sure  that you love it before you part with your money.

I hope that was useful and as I said I will be doing more of this type of blog so stay tuned!

Primark, Set, Go!!!

IMG_7313

Hello Everyone!

So as some of you may know I was a very dedicated gym-goer in the lead up to my wedding, I reached my goal just in time and my fitness levels were better then ever.

However, as soon as the wedding was over and the honeymoon blues set in I totally stopped going to the gym and the determination just wasn't there anymore. In November I went back to the gym and have been taking it quite easy up until now but I am ready to get back to feeling strong and fit again!

When Penneys approached me to collaborate with them on their Primark, Set, Go Campaign I jumped at the chance. It will involve a series of workouts, Motivational talks, wellbeing, mindfulness and healthy eating so I thought it might help give me the kick start that I need.

Yesterday was the first of the events and it was very cool! It started off with an inspiring talk with Coach Kavanagh , coach to Conor Mc Gregor and as some of you may know also brother to snapchat star James kavanagh. I left the talk feeling motivated and ready for our workout with the guys from Fit Vision, the whole idea of this was to really put the Penneys workout gear to the test and we REALLY did!

The class was intense to say the least and involved a mix of boxing and HIT. To finish off the day we had a cooking demo with Indy power better know as The Little Green Spoon. In less then an hour she showed us 4 quick and easy healthy recipes, all of which I wrote down so I will share them with you all too.

It was a really fun day and was full of surprises which I loved and am looking forward to the next one already!

Lust Have Gifts at Arnotts

I am so excited to be collaborating with Arnotts this Christmas as it has always been a firm favourite place to shop for me and my Mum.  Over the past few months Arnotts has undergone  some big and exciting changes especially for beauty addicts like me with the recent opening of both a MAC and Charlotte Tilbury make up counters. I have compiled a list of my  personal 'Lust Have Gifts' this Christmas. There are so many gorgeous gift ideas in Arnotts but I wanted to pick a selection of ideas that I think my readers will love. So many of you got in touch with me asking for gift advice as I think we all have someone that is particularly hard to buy for. First up are some personalised gift ideas from Mr.Men and Little Miss, the reason why I choose to feature this is because you could literally get these for anyone from your grandad to your 6 year old! You can choose from personalised mugs or phone covers at €20 or another really nice gift idea is a framed print of a personalised Mr Men family at €60. There are some more cute options like luggage tags or stationary tins too. 0-90-8 Next up is MAC Cosmetics and I found an unbelievable bargain there and after sharing it on my snapchat so many of you emailed me saying you could believe the price! MAC have carefully selected 15 wearable shades and made a pre-filled eyeshadow palette which is retailing at €59.50, this is amazing value and comes in two options warm neutrals and cool neutrals. The MAC counter in Arnotts is the biggest in  Ireland and also has a private make up room for anyone booked in for a makeover. They also have 2 play tables where customers can try on a selection of products themselves. 0-100-11 I think another gift that is always welcomed is a candle, I know I personally can never have enough!  A favourite brand of mine is definitely Yankee Candles, when I was getting married a couple of people got me gifts of The Wedding Day candle which I love and always buy for newly engaged friends. I also think the Baby Powder one is a nice idea for a new mum or mum to be. 0-12 While I am on the subject of candles there is also a nice option to have a personalised message of your choice printed on a choice of four Max Benjamin candles for €24. image-1-1 Did I mention that I love candles? Another brand that I love is Neom Organics London, I received a gift of the Sicilian lemon and fresh basil scent and it smells amazing, prices start at €19.00. neom Another gift idea that caught my attention were these cashmere scarves from Custom Vintage Dublin, you can have the initials of whoever the gift is for monogrammed on to the scarf. You just  choose the scarf colour, the font, the monogram size, thread colours and initials and they can do it for you there. The price of this is €89.95 and it is definitely a unisex option. 0-14 'Flowerbomb' by Victor and Rolf is an extremely popular fragrance choice amongst my friends and also a favourite of the brides I look after as their wedding fragrance. It is a very sweet and feminine scent so is a nice option for your friend, daughter, mum. Arnotts have a free engraving service on Victor and Rolf Perfumes at the moment so it is a nice gift idea to make the gift of a fragrance extra special. Prices start at €65 and the engraving service can be availed of on the day. 0-15 Also as part of this weekends event there is a 10% discount on fragrance gift sets. Just incase you are stuck for inspiration i will share a few favourite fragrances of mine :
  • Moltan Brown 'Tobacco Absolute' (unisex)
  • Chanel 'Eau Tendre'
  • Bleu De Chanel (for him)
  • Armani Si
  • Hugo Boss ' The Scent'
  • YSL La Nuit De L'homme (for him)
  • YSL Black Opium
  • Thiery Mugler Angel
  • Charlotte Tilbury 'Scent Of A Dream'
A lot of you said you were struggling to find gifts for the men in your lives, so I found a few things that I think are fun! Daniel loves a statement sock and always picks up a pack of Happy Socks when we are in Arnotts. They have a huge range of fun statement socks on display for €10 each and also have a nice gift set of 4 pairs of €30. 0-16 I also spotted a table of quirky gift ideas in the mens department including this Beard Oil set for €35 and Moustache Kit for €25. They are actually really handy and I love the packaging too!   0-17 Arnotts are running some amazing promotions in store over the next few days so be sure to pop in and pick up a bargain!
